Summer Fun

June 1-5, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Creatures in Color ~ Can you imagine yellow and green cows?  How about purple cats and pink dogs?  If you can imagine it, we’ve got the class for you.  You will have access to paper, canvas, acrylics, colored pencils, chalks, oil pastels, crayons, construction paper, etc.  Artists will be encouraged to make realistic drawings of animals and then imbue them with personalities through the use of color! $170

June 8 -12, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Drawing Techniques ~ We will explore both media and techniques used by the Masters throughout art history.  This course will broaden the artists’ knowledge of media and build the skills necessary to render realistic images.  $170

June 8-12, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Wheel Throwing ~ Are you ready to get your hands dirty? Patience and a high tolerance for messy hands is a must for learning this fun way to create pottery. You will learn the basic steps for creating bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. Due to the drying time involved, you will have three days to learn and practice how to throw pots on the wheel. The last two days of class will be spent glazing the pieces. $180

June 15-19, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Functional Pottery ~ Students will learn how to create platters, mugs and more using a variety of hand building techniques, as well as the pottery wheel.  Due to the drying time involved, students will have three days to work with wet clay.  The last two days of class will be spent glazing the pieces. $180

June 22-26, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Nature Inspired Art ~ Bugs, butterflies and blooms will be the motivation for this class! Create both 2D and 3D pieces of art inspired by the great outdoors while learning drawing, painting and basic clay hand-building techniques. Natural materials like leaves and sticks will also be incorporated into some of the pieces. Enjoy a special planting project led by staff from Missouri Botanical Gardens. $180

June 29-July 3, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Mosaics ~ Learn the basic techniques, tools and materials used to create colorful mosaics. Create intricate patterned mosaics on a stepping stone, picture frame, and more using ancient techniques and modern materials. $180

June 29-July 3, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Keep Calm and Make Art ~ De-stress this week by creating mindfulness tools such as calming jars, slime, and more. Campers will personalize their experience by selecting some of the projects throughout the week. $170

July 6-10, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Personalized Jewelry ~ Design unique pieces of jewelry using various techniques on metal such as stamping, texturing, and casting resin to create pendants, earrings and bracelets. $180

July 6-10, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Printmaking ~ Taught by our friends at Central Print, learn about the process and history of letterpress printmaking and get inky on press by making a series of original prints. Explore printing on the proof press by carving and printing your own linoleum block. Techniques include carving, mixing ink, printing on press. Create your design, transfer and carve the image, printing each color layer as you go. $180

July 13-17, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Figure Drawing ~ This class is designed for the serious art student who wishes to learn the secrets of drawing people to look life-like.  We will use both wet and dry media. You will draw from a live model (fully clothed) that will pose in multiple positions throughout each session. $180

July 20–24, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Glass Fusion ~ Learn glass cutting and design techniques to create colorful dishes, night lights, glass pendants and more using layers of fusible glass! $200

July 20–24, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Abstraction ~ Dive into the world of abstract art and be inspired by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko and Paul Klee. Create your own pieces inspired by these artists as well as create your own 2D abstract work, using a variety of materials including watercolor, acrylics, pastels and more! $170

July 27–31, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Painting with Acrylics and Watercolors ~ While both are water-born media, acrylics and watercolor paints are very different.  We will learn to use each, to respect and understand the unique qualities of each.  Students will complete one canvas in acrylic paints, and several watercolor studies.  $170

August 10-14, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Drawing and Painting Open Studio ~ Would you like a gentle critique?  Instruction?  Encouragement? This is an opportunity to work on something important to you, at your own pace while receiving the assistance you need to do your best art. You are welcome to bring your own supplies, but we will also have supplies on hand for your use. $170

August 10-14, 1:00 – 4:00 PM: Fun with Fibers ~ Learn to crochet, macrame, embroider and repurpose recycled fabrics. Students will make both wearable and functional pieces. *Advanced options available for students with experience. $170
